HousewareHounds exists to help Indian households choose home and kitchen products with fewer assumptions and better evidence. This page explains how we select products, verify claims, calculate ratings, use external sources and correct our work.
How we choose topics and products
We begin with a specific household decision rather than a generic list of popular products. For example, an Indian air-fryer guide must consider paneer, tikka, samosas, kebabs, reheating and realistic family batch sizes—not only nominal litres or the number of presets.
Candidate products are selected using a combination of:
- Availability and relevance in the Indian market
- Official specifications, manuals and warranty information
- Price-range and family-size coverage
- Distinct use cases or meaningful design differences
- Independent comparative evidence and recurring ownership considerations
- Service, replacement-part and electrical suitability for India
Paying a commission, offering a sample or appearing prominently on a marketplace does not guarantee inclusion.
Our evidence hierarchy
Not every source answers the same question. We classify evidence before using it:
| Evidence level | What it can establish | How we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Official documentation | Specifications, stated features, warranty and operating instructions | Attributed as manufacturer claims unless independently confirmed |
| Independent comparative evidence | Measurements, observed performance and model-to-model differences | Credited and linked; method and exact model must be identifiable |
| Recurring ownership evidence | Possible durability, service and daily-use patterns | Used to identify patterns and questions, not copied as testimonials |
| HousewareHounds evaluation | Our reasoned judgement across the available evidence | Published as a HousewareHounds Research Rating with the method disclosed |
| HousewareHounds hands-on work | Direct observations under a stated protocol | Explicitly identified with relevant conditions, photographs and limitations |
Manufacturer claims versus verification
Official product pages are primary sources for model numbers, power ratings, dimensions and written warranty terms. They are not independent proof of performance. Promotional statements such as “up to 90% less fat,” “family sized,” “non-toxic” or “even cooking” are described as manufacturer claims unless reliable evidence verifies the same point.
When two official sources disagree, we report the discrepancy instead of silently selecting the more favourable number. When a specification cannot be confirmed for the exact Indian SKU, we either omit it or label the uncertainty.
HousewareHounds Research Ratings
Our ratings are editorial decision tools, not marketplace customer-star averages. The criteria and weights change by product category because buyers do not evaluate an air fryer, a vacuum cleaner and a cookware set in exactly the same way.
A typical appliance score considers:
- Core task performance: how well the product is suited to its principal job
- Usable capacity and throughput: practical output rather than headline volume alone
- Controls and usability: clarity, flexibility and everyday convenience
- Cleaning, construction and ownership burden
- Safety and Indian electrical suitability
- Warranty, service and replacement-part evidence
- Value: capability relative to realistic Indian pricing
Each comparison article explains the category-specific weighting. A rating may change when a product is revised, a price tier shifts, warranty terms change or stronger independent evidence becomes available.
How we use reviews, forums and other publishers
Independent reviewers, specialist publications, YouTube tests, forums and communities can reveal decision criteria that specifications omit. We use them carefully:
- We link to the original source when it materially informs the article.
- We summarise findings in our own words.
- We do not reproduce another publisher’s photographs, tables or verdict.
- We look for recurring patterns instead of treating one complaint as universal.
- We do not scrape or reproduce Amazon customer reviews.
- We separate a publisher’s observation from our own conclusion.
Images and product identification
Exact product photographs are sourced from official manufacturer materials or other properly authorised sources and are attributed where appropriate. Editorial illustrations may be created by HousewareHounds to explain a use case, but an illustration will not be presented as a photograph of a named product. Images are resized and optimised for page performance without intentionally changing the appearance of the product.
Prices, availability and buying links
Prices, discounts and stock can change at any time. A price mentioned in an article is a dated observation, not a guarantee. Readers should confirm the exact model, seller, warranty and final price before purchasing.
Some outgoing links may be affiliate links. If a reader makes a qualifying purchase, HousewareHounds may receive a commission at no additional cost to the reader. Affiliate arrangements do not increase a product’s score. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains this relationship in more detail.
Corrections and updates
We review important buying guides when products, specifications, prices or evidence materially change. Substantive updates should be reflected in the article’s reviewed or updated date.
If you find a factual error, a model mismatch, an outdated warranty statement or a source that changes the decision, please use our Contact page. We will check the underlying evidence and correct confirmed errors.
Editorial independence
Manufacturers and retailers do not receive the right to approve our conclusions before publication. Where a product was supplied, sponsored or otherwise connected to a commercial relationship, that relationship should be disclosed clearly. We do not promise positive coverage in exchange for products, payment or affiliate access.
